Ohmi Beef celebrates the heritage of the old Ohmi region (Present-day Shiga Prefecture) as Japan’s oldest brand boasting quality that stands head and shoulders with the nation’s other famous brands, Kobe and Matsuzaka Beef.
Okaki’s Ohmi beef features soft texture and outstanding flavor. Traditional thinking values greater fat content with a higher melting point and a more solid texture, but the lower melting point of Okaki’s Ohmi beef fat means that it melts in your mouth as its refreshingly wonderful flavor bathes your tongue. While markets focus on appearance in ranking beef, Okaki places a priority on the quality that goes into production, quality such as the feed and water that improve the taste of Ohmi beef. This enthusiasm for top quality is the force behind Okaki’s drive to perfect its production techniques and deliver tasty Ohmi beef to your table.

Okaki Ranch Okaki Beef Produced by Traditional Techniques with Care
Okaki was founded in Yamanoue, Ryuo town in Gamo County, the heart of Shiga Prefecture, which was called “Ohmi” in old days. The area is also on the Gamo Plain, which is in south of the Koto Plain spreading to the east of Lake Biwa.
Ryuo town is surrounded by Mt. Yukino to the east and Mt. Kagami to the west. It is blessed with clear air, bountiful tasty water from the Hino River, and a wealth of herbs grown since ancient times in the surrounding countryside. The Yamanoue Area in particular flourished from the end of Edo Period (1603-1868) to the Meiji Period (1868-1912) as a production site of excellent Ohmi beef delivered to Yokohama and Tokyo.
Since the founder Shohichi began ranching in 1839, Okaki has developed Ohmi beef production along with changes in the times.
With our long experience producing beef in a rich natural environment, Okaki continues improving the traditional techniques that produce high quality Ohmi beef to satisfy our customer expectations.
